Australian government threatens Twitter with massive fines

Wants Twitter to censor their political enemies

In 2021, the Australian parliament, with a “center-right” majority, passed the Online Safety Act of 2021. This dramatically increased the power of the federal government to restrict online content and fine internet companies. The new act went into effect on January 23rd, 2022.

Julie Inman Grant is a former Twitter employee who was appointed the “eSafety Commissioner” by a center-right ruling coalition in 2017. In 2020, the World Economic Forum named her one of the top fifty people worldwide who are “revolutionizing government.” A left-wing Labour Party government re-appointed her in 2022 for another five-year term.

The Online Safety Act of 2021 gave her broad new powers.

Now she is demanding that Twitter disclose information on content moderation under the threat of $687k per day in fines. Julie Inman Grant has published an official statement declaring that Twitter needs more censorship. She uses GLAAD, the Anti-Defamation League [ADL], and the UK-based CCDH as her sources. All three of these groups are left-wing and advocate for the censorship of conservative views.

This clearly shows what kind of censorship Grant desires. She wants to censor conservatives.
