I went to Emory University (graduated in the late 80s) and it was hopelessly liberal even back then, although the campus demographics have changed considerably. Emory used to be a school of choice among J e w i s h kids from the northeast who wanted a school with the same elite ranking as Rutgers or UPenn, but without the miserable winters.
