Students stage “Brown Pride” protest at Caldwell, ID high school

Latinos demand the right to wear "Brown Pride" clothing at school

Latino students staged a public protest in front of Caldwell High, in Caldwell, Idaho, after clothing that says “Brown Pride” was banned. School officials say gang members use the slogan. The has already had past problems with Latino gangs.

Daniel Liera, Treasure Valley Community College’s multicultural outreach coordinator, says that the local school board needs more members that “look like us.” He lamented that while the schools are being rapidly transformed by mass immigration, most school board leaders are still White.

According to Great Schools, the school is 61% Latino and 36% White.
