Mason Greenwood is a star player for Manchester United, has a promotional deal with NIKE, and is an outspoken proponent of Black Lives Matter. British football has been highly politicized to push Black racial issues in Europe.
On Sunday, an unnamed blonde woman posted pictures on social media showing bruises and blood on her body. Shortly after, police arrested Greenwood on suspicion of rape and assault.
Manchester United has pulled all of Greenwood’s merchandise pending the investigation. NIKE issued a statement saying they were monitoring the situation.
“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.” – Manchester United.
In the USA, there has been a surge in violence by current and former NFL players.
