Four people shot at Austin’s notoriously violent SXSW festival right in front of an army of cops

As the SXSW “Music Showcase” ended Sunday morning, four people were shot. The shooting occurred even though an army of uniformed police officers were dispersed among the crowd.

The shooter was probably standing within ten yards of a police officer. The Austin police arrested a suspect nearby. No information on the shooter or the victims has been released.

The festival has been the scene of deadly violence since at least 2014. In 2019, there were multiple shootings. The city pledged to have a far greater police presence in the future. The 2020 and 2021 events were cancelled, except for “virtual” exhibits.

Homicide rates have exploded in Austin.
