Milwaukee Juneteenth parade ends with five shot

America's most dangerous federal holiday

Note: Some media now report that six victims were shot.

Related: In a White suburban area outside of Chicago, hundreds of young Black males and females conducted an “illicit street takeover” to celebrate Juneteenth. Local media is reporting that as many as twenty-nine people were shot. Reginald Meadows was killed.

A Juneteenth parade was held in Milwaukee on Martin Luther King Jr Drive. Four female victims aged 14 to 18 were shot and injured as the celebration ended. One male victim, aged 19, was also shot and injured. Police say a 17-year-old suspect has been arrested.

Milwaukee has set new records for the highest homicide rate in city history for the past three years. Over sixty percent of all homicides in the entire state of Wisconsin are now committed in Milwaukee.

2020: 190 (577k, 32.9 per 100k) new record for highest homicide rate
2021: 193 (569k, 33.9 per 100k) new record for highest homicide rate
2022: 214 (563k, 38.0 per 100k) new record for the highest homicide rate

2019: 84.3% of known suspects were Black
2020: 78.1% of known suspects were Black
