Despite the media’s portrayal of mass shooters as White people, most mass shooters in the USA are Black males. A large majority of all mass shootings are Black on Black. It is true that Black mass shooters, on average, cause fewer fatalities than mass shooters of other races. This is because Black mass shooters are more likely to carry out the shooting at the spur of the moment, while mass shooters of other races are more likely to have spent time planning. However, Black perpetrators carry out mass shootings in extreme disproportion to any other race. Of the 62 deadliest mass shootings in 2021, at least 58.6% were perpetrated by Black shooters. When you extend the range to include mass shooting with fewer fatalities, the Black percentage continuously gets higher.
