Another shooting spree at a Louisiana High School graduation, grandmother killed, 2 injured

Why is this happening?

Augustine Greenwood, 80, was killed at a High School Graduation in New Orleans. Two other people were shot. A total of twelve shots were fired. Police say the shooting began after two females had been fighting in the parking lot. No information on a suspect has been provided. Greenwood had a grandchild who was graduation.

The graduation ceremony was being held for Morris Jeff High and occurred at Xavier University.

This is the second shooting spree at a Louisiana High School graduation this year! Four people were shot a High School graduation for Hammond High School in Hammond, Louisiana last May. Trent Thomas, a twenty year old Black male was arrested.

This is the second graduation at Xavier to be marred by violence this year! On May 20th, fighting erupted at the High School graduation for George Washington Carver High School. People were caught on video beating each other with chairs. Police arrested a 23 year old Black male and charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police are seeking three other Black males.

According to Great Schools:

Morris Jeff High School: 52% Black, 26% White, 17% Latino
George Washington Carver High School: 90% Black, 8% Latino
Hammond High School: 55% Black, 32% White, 7% Latino

There was also a double shooting at a High School graduation in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. An 18 year old Black male was killed and another 17 year old victim was shot and wounded. A 17 year old suspect was arrested. Despite being charged with first degree murder, police and media are censoring his identity because he is a “minor.” The school is only 17% Black, but it appears to have been a Black on Black shooting.
