Four people shot during High School graduation in Hammond, Louisiana

Update: 20 year old Trent Thomas has been arrested.

Four adult males were shot during a graduation ceremony for Hammond High School in Hammond, Louisiana. The ceremony was being held at the Hammond campus of Southeastern Louisiana University. The shooting took place in the parking lot while the graduation was in progress.

All of the gunshot victims are 18 or older. No other information has been provided. A Black male was seen being arrested in the parking lot.

Hammond High School is 55% Black, 32% White, 7% Latino, 5% Mixed-race. Hammond is a small town of about 20k people. In 2021, the city had at least nine murders, possibly giving Hammond its highest homicide rate in history. So far, there have been no homicides in 2022, but there are at least 11 gunshot victims counting these four.
