Tom MacDonald is not signed to any record label and has no corporate backing. His material is all self-released, and his music videos are all recorded and produced by his girlfriend, Nova Rockefeller. His rise to fame as an independent artist, entirely at odds with the values pushed by the corporate music industry, represents one of the most significant social disruptions in American pop culture in decades.
MacDonald’s “Snowflakes,” released last June, has received over 11 million views on Youtube so far.
