Suspects arrested in Summerton graduation party drive-by shooting

Some rural communities are also super violent

Eight people were shot, one was killed at a High School graduation party at a home in Summerton, SC. This is a tiny town of only 814 people in rural Claredon County. Audrionna Kind, a 32 year old mother of five, was killed.

Police have now arrested four suspects, 21-year-old Tyrese Brunson, 18-year-old Amontae Wright, 19-year-old Jaheim Billie and 21-year-old Demadrae Dennis. Police say they fired sixty rounds or more into a group of over one hundred people.

All four have been denied bond. Each is charged with one count of murder, eight counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Police say more arrests could still come.

Summerton has had at least five homicides since 2014. This is .59 homicides per year. With only 814 people, that is a staggering homicide rate of 72.5 per 100k. If Summerton were a large city, it would be one of the absolute deadliest in America. Summerton is a perfect example of how super high Black homicide rates are not just a phenomenon of urban areas. Summerton is about two thirds Black.
