On September 21st, 2020, four-year-old Rowan Brandon Sweeney was shot in the head twice, execution style, during a home invasion in Struthers, Ohio. Four other adults, two Black males and two White females were also shot and injured.
The survivors said that a Black male had entered their home and then went on a mass shooting. Struthers is a tiny town that is 85% White and 4% Black. It is considered a safe area.
Alexis Schneider, 23, the mother of Sweeney, was shot. Her boyfriend, Yarnell Green Jr., 30, who Schneider was dating and living with, was seriously injured. Andre McCoy, who was originally thought to be a victim, was shot and seriously injured. Cassandra Marsicola, a twenty-year-old White female, was shot and injured.
Eventually, police concluded that Yarnell Green was the target of the home invasion because he had $5k in cash he received as Covid-19 stimulus for his barbershop business.
Kimonie Bryant, a 24-year-old Black male, turned himself in and was charged with murder. Brandon Crump, a 17-year-old Black male, was charged with being his accomplice.
In March of 2021, Schneider and Greene were pulled over for a traffic violation and found to have a stolen gun.
Meanwhile, Andre McCoy thought initially to be a victim, left the hospital without ever talking to the police. He has never been seen again.
In March of 2021, The US Marshalls Service announced that they were seeking Andre McCoy for the aggravated murder of Rowan Sweeney, attempted murder, felonious assault, aggravated burglary, firearms violations, and tampering with evidence. In March of 2022, he still had not been apprehended, and the US Marshall Service offered a reward of $5k for information.
However, McCoy has never been caught. On December 5th, the US Marshalls Service announced a $10k reward for information leading to his capture.
