San Francisco’s anti-suicide net is now costing $400 million

Years behind schedule and double the original budget

According to an official government website, San Francisco and the state of California are deploying a giant “Suicide Deterrent Net” at the Golden Gate Bridge. The project was started in 2018 and was supposed to cost $200 million and be completed by 2021.

According to the LA Times, the cost of the net has already doubled its original budget, and construction has taken far longer than planned. It is now expected to cost $400 million and be completed in 2023.
