NYC teacher files lawsuit after being beaten up by the same 2nd grader three times

This is not even a shock any more

Cathleen DeGarmo, 58, teaches at PS179Q in Queens. She filed a lawsuit saying the NYC Department of Education failed to protect her. She says the same “special needs” second grader beat her up three times.

The student allegedly had a history of assaults, but the teacher was never warned. The attacks took place in September and November of 2021. DeGarmo now has tears in both of her shoulders.

According to the NYPD, 58 school safety agents were injured by students last year. Of these, 42 were hospitalized. Another 52 school safety agents have been injured in 2022 so far.
