New St. Louis mayor pledges to shut down one of the city’s two jails, despite the highest homicide rate in the city’s history

Get ready for an epic jailbreak in St. Louis

Tishaura Jones assumed office as the new Mayor of St. Louis last month. Under the pretense of “racial justice,” she wants to reduce the number of police in the city and shut down one of the city’s two jails. Jones is pledging to shut down the St. Louis Medium Security Institution, which is more commonly known as the “Workhouse.” This facility houses over one thousand people.

Recently, Jones toured the Workhouse and then made false statements about the conditions she saw. She claimed the Workhouse was covered in bugs and “utter filth.” Jones forbid reporters from coming on the tour with her. However, the local NBC station obtained security footage of her tour and declared that the video directly contradicted her statements.

St. Louis had 194 homicides in 2019. In 2020, they had 262, a staggering 35% increase. This was the highest homicide rate in the history of the city. They had the highest number of homicides since 1993; however, the city’s population was much higher in 93.

During the first four months of 2021, St. Louis had 21% more murders than the same period in 2020. The city is on track to break last year’s record-setting homicide rate.

St. Louis now has one of the highest homicide rates in the entire Western Hemisphere. Similar to some of the deadliest cities in Mexico and Venezuela.

Jones is also pledging to reduce the budget of the police department by four million.
