Deadly mass shootings are way down in 2025 so far

What is the reason?

There have only been six mass killings, with three or more fatalities, in 2025 so far. Five of these were mass shootings.

This amount is tiny compared to 2021-2024. Between 2021 and 2024, we documented 271 mass shootings with 3 or more fatalities.

In 2021, 2022, and 2024, the number of mass shootings with 3 or more fatalities was extremely consistent. 63, 60, and 58. This averages to 5.03 per month.

In 2023, there was a huge spike. That year saw 90 such incidents or an average of 7.5 per month. For the entire four-year period, the average is 5.65 per month.

For the first three months of 2025, there were fewer than a month’s worth of deadly mass shootings compared to 2021-2024.
