Norwegian lesbian faces jail time for saying men can’t be lesbians

Persecuted for factually accurate statement

“It’s just as impossible for men to become lesbian as it is for men to become pregnant. Men are men regardless of their sexual fetishes.” – Tonje Gjevjon

Tonje Gjevjon is a Norwegian lesbian who faces a potential hate crime charge and up to three years in prison. Her crime was posting the above statement on Facebook on November 17th.

She is not the first person. Feminist activist Christina Ellingsen also faces up to three years in prison for saying men can’t be lesbians on Norwegian television.

In January 2021, the Norwegian government declared “gender identity and gender expression” a “protected class.” This has led to the persecution of individuals for making wildly accurate and indisputably factual statements.

Gjevjon has called for the Norwegian government to protect lesbians, stating “will the Equality Minister take action to ensure that lesbian women’s human rights are safeguarded, by making it clear that there are no lesbians with penises, that males cannot be lesbians regardless of their gender identity, and by tidying up the mess of the harmful gender policies left behind by the previous government?”
