Julie Lindsey, 34, was found dead at a park in Durham. Police have arrested Lamin Amie Njie, 35, and charged him with first-degree murder.
Few details have been given in local media. Friends of Lindsey say she leaves behind three children. They say Njie is a convicted felon who shot her at a gas station and then dumped the body at Hillside park.
Njie is a surname from Gambia.
Durham experienced a significant surge in shootings and homicides in 2021. This trend has continued in 2022. The city is about 38% Black, but a large majority of all homicides are Black on Black. However, this is at least the second Black on-White homicide in two months. Derek Sterling, a 41-year-old White male, was killed on August 30th. Frederick Johnson, a 52-year-old Black male, has been charged with his murder.
