The Pechersk Lavra, or Monastery of the Caves, began in 1051 with monks simply digging caves into the side of a hill in Kiev. Zelensky has ordered two hundred Orthodox monks to vacate the site by March 29th. Across Ukraine, Orthodox clergy are being arrested and facilities are being shut down for alleged disloyalty to the government.
The Vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra previously removed a priest last November after he led worshippers in singing a song with the line “the bell floats over Russia.” He denies that the monks are disloyal to the Ukrainian government.

Pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
Pray for the monks of the canonical Church who have been ordered to vacate the Kiev Pechersk Lavra by March 29. Thousands of faithful have gathered at the monastery to show their love and support. Lord have mercy! pic.twitter.com/UJojDdkFdk
