Armenian government putting on Snoop Dogg concert as Artsakh burns

Government is spending $6 million on the concert

Two days ago, Azerbaijan launched a massive surprise attack on Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as the Republic of Artsakh. Azerbaijan is making heavy use of its Turkish and Israeli drones. They targeted the republic’s meager air defenses first, wiping them out.

Rioting broke out in the Armenian capital as angry protesters accused their government of abandoning the region.

Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan after the fall of the Soviet Union. The residents are Armenian Christians, while Azerbaijan is a Turkic Shiite nation. After years of conflict, the majority of the break-away republic is now under Azerbaijan occupation. In September 2022, Azerbaijan broke the ceasefire and invaded the city of Lachin, which is still occupied.

Meanwhile, the government of Armenia is about to hold a taxpayer-funded Snoop Dogg stadium concert in two days. They have spent $6 million on the show. Critics accuse the Armenian government of using the money to enrich their friends. Most Armenians make less than $5k per year.

Today, Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire. However, it is unclear if it will last very long.
