Antifa member charged in brutal stabbing at pro-Trump event in Albany, NY

Victim needed surgery to repair an eviscerated bowel.

Self-described Antifa Alexander S. Contompasis

A small group of Trump supporters were violently attacked by Antifa during a pro-Trump rally in Albany, NY on January 6th. The attackers were armed with various weapons.

Police have released a video of the event that shows the perpetrators approach the demonstration and then assault people. A man from Rotterdam, NY was hospitalized with serious wounds after being stabbed five times in the torso and the leg. The victim received emergency surgery to repair an eviscerated bowel at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Police have now charged Alexander Stokes Contompasis, 37, of Rensselaer, NY. Contompasis has posted pictures of himself on Facebook, with guns and knives, while repeatedly bragging about being a member of Antifa. Police recovered the knife used in the stabbing inside his car.

The suspect was charged with first-degree assault and released on a $60k bond. Many are criticizing Albany prosecutors and believe Contompasis should be charged with attempted murder. Two other people, who showed up with Contompasis, were given tickets to appear in court for having collapsable metal batons.

Contompasis was previously charged with rioting during the inauguration of President Trump in Washington DC. However, local authorities refused to prosecute Contompasis along with over two hundred other people charged.

The attack in Albany has only received minor media coverage in the immediate area. The victim is unnamed and said to be a member of the Proud Boys, a men’s club founded by comedian Gavin McInnis.

In the past year, at least two different people were shot and killed at pro-Trump events by individuals with ties to the extreme far-left. On August 29th, 2020, Aaron Danielson was shot and killed by self-described Antifa member Michael Reinoehl in Spokane, Washington. The perpetrator later died in a shootout with police. Matthew Dolloff was charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting Lee Keltner at an event in Denver, Colorado on October 10th. Dolloff had far-left social media posts, though none specifically mention Antifa.
