Black homicides in Milwaukee are the main factor driving the state-wide surge in homicides during and after the BLM riots.

Milwaukee is about 39% Black or roughly 222k people. This population group represents less than 3.8% of the state’s population. Yet the data shows this group committed over half of all the murders in the entire state in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

To further verify this, we can look at the 2021 CDC assault homicide death rates. Nationwide, Blacks kill far more non-Blacks than the number of Blacks killed by non-Blacks. Therefore, the number of Black homicide victims tends to lower than the total number of homicides committed by Blacks. Therefore, we can use CDC assault homicide death data for further confirmation that Milwaukee murders with a Black perp account for over half of all murders in the state.

Note: Usually CDC assault homicide deaths are higher than official state totals for murder/nonnegligent homicide. This is partially because cities across the USA have been tightening the definition of what counts for decades in order to artificially lower their homicide rate.

Note: Roughly 88% of all Blacks in Milwaukee County live in the city of Milwaukee.
