Alejo Vidal-Quadras, 78, is a Spanish politician and radiation physicist. He served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2014 and held the position of First Vice President of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2007. In addition to his service in the European Parliament, he has held several elected positions in Spain. He was a member of the Barcelona City Council from 1987 to 1991, a member of the Parliament of Catalonia from 1988 to 1996, and a Senator in the Spanish Senate from 1996 to 1999.

In 2014, he announced that he was leaving the People’s Party for a new party, Vox. He is recognized as one of the founding members of the far-right political party Vox, which currently holds the position as the third-largest force in the lower house of the Spanish parliament.

Earlier today, Vidal-Quadras was shot in the face outside his home in Madrid. The perpetrators were two masked men on a motorbike. They are currently still at large.
He is in stable condition and expected to live.
