The entire NYC Democratic Party Mayoral Primary has been thrown into chaos as the New York Board of Elections says the counting was completely botched.
As many as 20% of the votes may be invalid. The Board of Elections says that 135,000 “test votes” were accidentally counted. The election was the first-ever ranked-choice vote.
The initial results were that Eric Adams won by a huge margin. However, voters could enter both a first choice and a second choice vote. The final results can not be announced until the second-choice votes are tabulated. Now, it is anyone’s guess when results will be announced. The election has been botched and could result in a major legal battle between candidates.
