The suspect has a White mother and a father with a Spanish surname. However, a birth announcement lists his middle name as Kawikakekamaekaikamaikalani. This is shortened too Kawika in police records. This is ethnic Hawaiian.
It is unclear if he is adopted or what. He has epicanthic eye folds and other features consistent with having significant Hawaiian background.
The shooting is a mystery. Somehow he flew on an airplane with a gun no one knew he had. Instead of getting on his connecting flight, he walked away from the airport and started firing at random people.
