We have previously published assault homicide death rates from 1999 to 2021.
The old National Vital Statistics System [NVSS] reports published by the CDC allow us to get more data from 1994 to 1998.
What we find is the 2021 White assault homicide death rate was the highest since 1998. However, the Black rate was the highest since 1994. The overall rate was the highest since 1997.
The CDC does not give overall assault homicide death rates for Latinos in these years. As far as we can tell, a lot of Latinos are counted as White for these years. From 1998 to 1999, the White rate fell 34% while the Black rate only fell 14%. A big reason for the dramatic fall in the White rate could be a better separation of Whites and Latinos in the data.
