Simon Gratz High School is a charter school run by Mastery Schools in Philadelphia. Mastery Schools says the High school specializes in STEM, advanced placement classes, technical training, and dual enrollment. Video clips show a very modern and lavishly funded school.
During the 2020-2021 school year, a staggering fourteen students were victims of shootings. Five of them died!
In September of 2021, two more students and a recent graduate were shot and killed. A third student was seriously wounded by gunfire.
The school was once featured on the list of “Persistently Dangerous Schools” but was removed in 2012.
