Jackson, MS, lost 5% of its population in 27 months

Media in Jackson, MS, is now reporting that Jackson is the fastest shrinking city (with over 100k people) in the USA.

The US Census Bureau now estimates that the population fell 5% in just 27 months, from April 1st, 2020, to July 1st, 2022.

In 2013, Jackson elected the self-described “President of New Afrika” as its mayor. Chokwe Lumumba was the longtime leader of the Black separatist/Marxist Republic of New Afrika. The widow of Malcolm X had been his second in command. Lumumba advocated that a new Black nation be carved out of majority Black areas of the deep south with Jackson, MS as its capital.

Currently, Chokwe Lumumba’s son Chokwe A. Lumumba is the mayor.

In 2021, Jackson, MS, had an almost incomprehensible homicide rate of 100 per 100k.

Utilities are failing in Jackson, despite massive amounts of state and federal government aid to keep the city running.
