The slogan “I can’t breathe” is not a reflection of police brutality against Black suspects. It is a tactic used by Black suspects to evade the repercussions of their actions.
As we see in this video, “I can’t breathe” is what the alleged shoplifter immediately starts screaming to attempt to evade arrest. You then see the mixed-race crowd descend into chaos as a loud Black woman begins screaming hysterically, “let him go.”
