The Bail Project’s brutal trail of carnage

The group that unleashes horror on US cities

Left-wing extremists David Gaspar and Robin Steinberg.

The Bail Project is an extreme-left-wing organization dedicated to bailing out accused criminals. Many are habitual career criminals and known violent, dangerous people.

David Gaspar and Robin Steinberg are usually described as the founders and leaders.

According to public IRS filings: (Note that their reporting period goes from July to June, not January to December.)

FY 2017: $24.8 million in revenue
FY 2018: $15.0 million in revenue
FY 2019: $41.9 million in revenue
FY 2020: $33.7 million in revenue
FY 2021: $18.5 million in revenue
FY 2022: $14.1 million in revenue
FY 2023: $10.2 million in revenue

The group paid $7,979,380 in salaries and wages in FY 2023. There were eight executives earning $188K- $220K, with up to $8K-$45K in compensation from related organizations.

In April 2019, the group paid bail for Samuel Scott, 54, who was charged with domestic violence. He went straight back to his home in St Louis and savagely beat and stabbed his wife, Marcia Johnson, 54, to death. Extremist Robin Steinberg, then CEO, practically mocked the woman’s horrific murder, callously stating, “No one could have predicted this tragedy.”

In 2020, the group bailed out Christopher Stewart, 34, a four-time felon who had been designated a habitual violent criminal. He immediately tried to cause a mass casualty event by setting an entire apartment building on fire in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. The residents included his ex-girlfriend and his six-year-old child. Police responded quickly and evacuated everyone.

In 2021, the group bailed out Travis Lang, a habitual criminal. He then shot two people, killing Dylan McGinnis, in Indianapolis. The family of McGinnis filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the extremist organization. It was dismissed by Judge Jonathan M. Brown.

In 2021, the group bailed out Marcus Garvin, a habitual violent criminal who had just been arrested for stabbing a man in a parking lot. He then stabbed his girlfriend, Christie Holt, 30, fifty-one times and dismembered her body in Indianapolis. Extremist David Gaspar, then national director, practically mocked the woman’s horrific murder, callously stating, “This just happens to be an example of a tragic event.”

In 2021, the group bailed out Rashawn Gaston-Anderson, a habitual criminal, who immediately shot a waiter seven times in Las Vegas. The victim, Chengyan Wang, miraculously survived. He filed a wrongful death lawsuit against The Bail Project.  A judge dismissed his lawsuit.

In 2025, the group bailed out Donnie Allen, a habitual criminal. Five days later, he allegedly killed Benjamin McComas, 27, in an unprovoked hate crime-style murder at a Cleveland light rail station.
