A brand new report by John F. Sopko, the Pentagon’s Inspector General for the Reconstruction of Afghanistan, details how American tax-payer dollars are still being delivered to Afghanistan.
Sopko says that the United Nations has delivered $2.9 billion in cash to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan since August 2021, of which $2.6 billion came from the United States. Note that the report does not discuss food shipments or other humanitarian supplies; it is strictly about currency.
$1.7 Billion of the $2.6 Billion came from the budget of the US State Department, primarily the USAID program. The other $.9 Billion is not itemized.
