Ohio became the 20th state legislature to ban transsexual hormonal drugs for minors and the 22nd to ban “gender reassignment surgeries” for minors.

It is called the Saving Ohio Adolescents from Experimentation Act [Safe Act]. The same bill also protects single-sex women’s sports in schools and colleges. This is also the first new legislature to ban these procedures and drugs in the new 2023-2024 legislative session.

The final version was passed by both the House and the Senate on December 13th. It passed the House 62 to 27 and the Senate 24 to 8. The Governor has not yet signed the bill. However, the legislature has more than enough votes for a veto.

Zero Democrats voted in favor, and only one Republican voted against.
