I have been reporting on this for the past two years. You will see politicians make false claims like “well other than homicides, violent crime is down.”
Only reported violent crime is down.
You have to look at the two things that always get reported. Homicide and auto theft.

The San Francisco homicide rate increased 47% from 2019 to 2022, with total homicides increasing 37%. However, the overall reported violent crimes declined 14% during the same time period.
2023: Homicides up 10% over same time period from 2022, but overall reported violent crimes are only up 4%.
