On May 8th, the Hapoel U-NET from Holon played against the MHP Reisen from Ludwigsburg, Germany. The match took place in Bilbao, Spain. This was part of the Basketball Champions League Final Four tournament.
Israeli fans battled in the streets with locals and activists outside the stadium. There was a group of people who brought Palestinian flags and a giant banner saying “Zionists F@ck Off.”
Video clips show some Israeli fans trashing patio furniture at a pub with a Palestinian flag above the front door. The mob is burning a Palestinian flag in a different clip.
Bilbao is in Spain’s Basque Country, and there is a history of strong support for Palestinian statehood among the Basque.
Note: Most of the Israeli fans are wearing matching purple shirts.
