The government of Canada finally published 2023 data on its Medical Assistance in Dying [MAID] program. The report was about a month and a half late.

In 2023, 19,660 Canadians requested MAID, and 15,343 of these were euthanized by the government. Only 915, or 4.6%, were deemed ineligible.
Canada’s MAID program was legalized in June of 2016. A total of 1,018 people were euthanized by the state in 2016. Since then, the government has been progressively expanding eligibility.
The report boasts that euthanasia ONLY grew in 2023 at “one-half the rate” it grew in 2022. However, the rate of growth is still staggering. In 2022, euthanasia grew to 31.2% and gave Canada the second-highest overall rate in the world after the Netherlands. In 2023, Canada continued to close the gap with the Netherlands.
Canada is widely accused of pushing assisted suicide as a tactic to save their socialist health care service. Euthanasia is a significant cost-cutting, especially when it comes to reducing end-of-life care.
