In 2019 and 2020, Ted Wheeler empowered violent Antifa by greenlighting multiple law enforcement stand downs during their violent riots. Wheeler alleges that he only “agreed” with decision made by the police department to conduct stand downs. Critics of Ted Wheeler accused him of ordering the stand downs.
However, by the end of 2020, things went south when Antifa tried to establish “an autonomous zone” on the same street where Ted Wheeler lived. Wheeler finally moved against the group to protect his own neighborhood. They have been a thorn in his side ever since.
