While, Turkey is a NATO ally, hosts American military bases, and has loaner US nuclear weapons, American and Turkey are fighting an active proxy war in Syria.
Despite officially claiming the PKK is a “terrorist group,” America funds and arms a totalitarian single party state in Rojava that is run by the Syrian wing of the PKK, known as the PYD. The PYD is also persecuting the indigenous Assyrian Christians.
The Turkish army and Turkish sponsored ethno-chauvinist Turkic Grey Wolf militias are fighting the PYD and their armed forces known as the YPG/SDF. The SDF is a front name that was created for the benefit of the Pentagon to gaslight Turkey with.
America and Turkey have even shot down each other’s drones over Syria.
America and Turkey are also on opposite sides of the Gaza conflict. Turkey was a major ally of Israel, but they have became estranged. This is partially to undermine Saudi Arabian influence in the region and promote themselves as not only a global pan-Turkic leader, but also as a pan-Sunni regional leader.
