There were two double shootings, each with one fatality. Both took place near police officers and private security. First on Ocean Drive and 7th on Friday. Then another on Ocean Drive and 11th on Sunday.
The suspect in the Friday shooting has still not been identified. The suspect in the Sunday shooting is Dontavious Polk, a Black male.
Videos also show mobs of Black males and females fighting, stampeding, and vandalizing cars.
Miami Beach City Commissioner Alex Fernandez called for an end to Spring Break over the violence:
A business owner reported a stampede on Ocean Drive at ~7:30 pm. Patrons had to hide under tables and the business had to close for employee safety. This is a 100% ungovernable takeover. We need to act NOW to close our city early next March and end spring break. Our residents, law enforcement, workforce, and visitors don’t deserve to be exposed to this dangerous environment. – Alex Fernandez
In response to the two shootings and the excessively large and unruly crowds, and to mitigate dangerous and illegal conduct, the City of Miami Beach has ordered a state of emergency and a 11:59 p.m. curfew to take effect on Sunday, March 19, 2023 through 6 https://t.co/E9PK1gHQ9t… https://t.co/ndcAfx8ZKf pic.twitter.com/fvVjFyHlB0
